Our Team
Paleochora TRT is a runners’ club based in Paleochora, south of Chania.
The goals of the club and its events are:
- The development of athletic/alternative recreational tourism, especially during the winter season.
- The transmission of athletic values and of fair play (“ευ αγωνίζεσθαι”) to younger ages, through children’s participation in introductory races.
- The promotion and protection of the natural beauty of the wider area (In the “Crocodile Trail,” most of the route is part of the NATURA 2000 program: http://www.ecovalue-crete.eu/el/sites/gr4340005).
The race’s name, “Crocodile Trail” refers to the shape of the cape east of Paleochora, Chania, which resembles a giant petrified crocodile swimming. But it also carries a metaphorical meaning, as the route’s profile features four very sharp “teeth,” like those of the animal. In addition, the trail’s terrain hides many jagged rocks, like teeth. Paleochora’s “Crocodile” is completely still and tamed, waiting for visitors to discover its beauty.
